Don't worry!
The majority of those 10,000 words are in picture format.
Scroll down to spot yourself in the shots from our surfskate event last week.
In the meantime, I wanted to sing the praises of the crustiest skatepark in Bristol... and the new Carver Pro Models we've just got online.
- It's 40 years old!
- Skateparks were made differently back then. There is no coping, no dropping in necessary. Just roll right into the smooth transitions.
- The 3 connected bowls are perfect for pumping and building flowy lines, rather than worrying about tricks
- It's crusty!
- That doesn't matter to you on a surfskate with big soft wheels...
- But it does keep a lot of skaters away - more room to play
- There's tons of space!
- Warm up on the slight incline with some cones, ride the bank by itself or take on the mini pumptrack style rollers... it's got something for everyone
Not in Bristol? No worries. This isn't the only, or the best, old concrete skatepark on our shores. I don't have an exhaustive list today, but:
In London you've got Rom, Harrow, Stockwell and Hackney Bumps.
Bournemouth boasts Slades Farm.
Livingston skatepark near Edinburgh is a classic.
Cornwall's Playing Place persists.
In Stevenage, Bowes Lyon awaits the brave...
Special thanks to Carver themselves for lending us 9 demo boards for the event!
As we continue to ride the boards in different conditions, we're honing our perception of what works best for which rider.
The CX truck certainly felt the most stable when it came to skatepark antics - easier to allow a bit of speed to build up, rather than creating it through shorter pumps.
Of the new Carver's in stock, my go-to for this kind of riding would be the Black Tip CX.
It's got the trucks, it's got the Hyperspoon concave to really lock in the front foot, it's a super durable construction and has a steep tail and little spoon nose to boot. High performance carving in a nutshell.
Plenty more photos available on Google Drive but for now, I think that's my 10,000 word equivalent done :)
See you Thursday for a cruise,
1st September in the shop,
or in the water this weekend for the 2ft slop,
