What is Longboard Dancing?

Longboard dancing is a smooth, stylish, and expressive form of freestyle skating. Originating from surf style steps, Longboard dancing now goes far beyond those basic cross steps and hang 10's, and can incorporate huge variations of steps, turns, grab tricks, and even slides. You can try some of the basics on any board, but to to nail some of those more complex steps, a specific dancing board is going to make things much easier!

What is Longboard Dancing?

Can you dance on any longboard?

Most average size boards will have enough deck space to get to grips with some of the basics of dancing, but even the basic steps are a whole lot easier on a longer, roomier, dancing specific board. Drop through or drop decked longboards generally don't have large enough standing platforms for these kind of tricks, but that's not to say you can't give them a try!

How do you practice dancing on a longboard?

The same way you practice anything! But more seriously, there are tons of great resources and instructional videos online to help you get started. Are dancing longboards good for beginners?

Dancing longboards are great for beginners! If you've never stepped foot on a board before, then a dancer is going to be one of the easier options to skate. Long wheelbases and a mellow flex mean that most dancers will be comfortable, stable, and easy to cruise around on.

Is longboard dancing hard?

As with all things, the more you do it the easier it gets! But as long as you're comfortable pushing around and handling your board you'll be ready to take on those first dance steps. Once you've nailed the basics the sky really is the limit, and there are enough variations and new tricks to learn to keep you on your toes for a long time, you sure won't 'outgrow' dancing!

How long should a dancing longboard be?

For those getting started in longboard dancing we would recommend going for a board of around 45-48". These longer boards are really stable and confidence inspiring to skate, and give you loads of space to boardwalk and learn new tricks with confidence. If you're a more experienced skater or looking to throw more flips or grab tricks into your dancing, then something nearer the 40" mark will be much easier to chuck around.

Can you cruise on a dancing longboard?

Sure you can! But... It does depend on what your local area is like. Being longer and less manouverable, a dancer might not be the ideal choice to cruise around the middle of a built up city. If that's your bag then you could be better off with a short longboard or mini cruiser.

If you're in a less built up area, then a dancer is right at home cruising the streets or the seafront, nothing compares to that big board feeling!

What wheels and trucks are best for longboard dancing?

You'll notice that all of the dancing boards we sell are specced with our own options of 'Pro' or 'Elite' build kits. We've chosen these specifically to be ideal for dancing.

To dance smoothly and stylishly you'll need a board that carves well. No stiff janky trucks here. That's why we spec all of our boards with Sabre 180mm longboard trucks, and offer a free gift with all of our dancers, so that you can dial in your truck bushing hardness and get that big board carving nicely!

For wheels, you don't want to go too big on a dancer. Larger wheels will be heavier, and harder to flip around and do tricks with. We give the option of 60mm Cult Novas, or thier bigger stone ground brother the 65mm Chronicle.

Got a deck already but your trucks and wheels are a bit tired and letting you down? check out our setup kits to give your old board a new lease of life!

Loaded Bhangra V2 Dancing Longboard

A descendant of the original Loaded Dancer and more recently from the original Bhangra, the Bhangra V2 builds on Loaded's longboard heritage to create a refined longboard dancing/cruising/carving board.

The deck

The Bhangra V2 is directional, with very mellow kicktails - they're just about enough to pop the board up for shuvits, kickturns, ollies, flips and other dancing tricks. It's available in two flex options, and we recommend that you choose based on your weight. As this deck is aimed at dancing and cruising you shouldn't need any extra stiffness to make sliding easier.

Wheels, Trucks, & Bearings

Like all of the Dancing boards on this page, we offer the Bhangra with our Vandem exclusive 'Pro' or 'Elite' build kits. Both feature Sabre 180mm trucks, the Pro kit incluldes Cult Nova wheels and Vandem Value Abec 5 bearings, whereas the Elite build steps it up to 65mm Cult Chronicles and Sabre Labyrinth bearings, for an even smoother, faster ride!

How does it ride?

Featuring Loaded's unique cork, bamboo and bio-resin, the Dancer is surprisingly light for its size. It features a relatively flat profile and concave compared to a lot of modern longboards (although it has a little more concave than the Bhangra V1), which makes it great for dancing and footwork tricks. Too much concave on a dancer and you won't be able to move your feet fast enough.

  • Light weight for its size
  • Built using sustainable materials
  • Two flex options
  • Beautiful finish, just look at it!
  • Its a premium deck with a premium price tag
  • If you want to do more flips and tricks, go for something shorter with steeper kicks
  • You want to leave the bamboo for the pandas
