Sunday morning: How our hearts sank
When GWR admitted there would be no trains for another 2 hours.
With a biblical amount of rain incoming and no trains getting to Bath from any direction, we thought we might be the only people skating back to Bristol, tails between our legs...
But there is always a way, and the weather gods generally smile on this event.
Whether that leads to the philosophical quandary of why gods would hand out cancer whilst smiling on an event raising money for its sufferers is beyond the scope of this newsletter.
Lucy convinced a bus driver to accept our train tickets as legal tender, the start was officially postponed by an hour, we fuelled up in Bath while the London+ contingent were stranded on a platform in Swindon, and still it didn't rain.
I could give a play-by-play of the day, but I think you've got the gist:
- Awesome
- No rain
- Big smiles
And did I mention the money raised? The current total is:
£4,400!
And there's plenty still coming in - add yours to the JustGiving now if you haven't already.
Alongside this, Vanny McVanstone has also raised over £4,000 to send his niece from NZ to Sydney for the treatment she needs - and raised a significant amount of smiles along the way, cruising along in his sequin onesie.
The raffle was held under cloudy skies but if rain was on the cards, the squeals of delight from raffle winners managed to hold it off just as long as we needed.
This is impossible without the frankly insane generosity of our sponsors, which once more for those at the back this year were:
- Lush Longboards
- Loaded Longboards
- Landyachtz Longboards
- Carver Skateboards
- Okozo Backpacks
- Santa Cruz Skateboards
- Arbor Longboards
- Orangatang Wheels
- Sabre Trucks
- Cult Wheels
While southern Britain was hit with a months worth of rain in a day, all ~150 of us got home with dry underpants.
Thank you to all of you brave enough to come out despite the forecast to one of the best Bristol Board Meetings I can remember.
Next year: 6th September. Get it in the diary!
I very much hope to have recovered by then :)
