Carver 32" Sun Ray C5 Surfskate

The Carver 32" Sun Ray C5 - part of Carvers "Street Surf Series", as you could have guessed by the more street skateboard styled deck. No swallowtails here!

At 32" this does sound like one of the bigger surfskate boards at first glance but it's not quite that simple - the wheelbase is actually one of the shorter available at just over 15.625" so it will be more agile - and less stable - than boards that are shorter such as the 30" Emerald Peak or 31" Triton. The reason is the big skateboard nose hanging over the front truck.

A nose on a surfskate, is that a good idea? Well, perhaps not if you had a C7 setup. But this complete features the C5 system which is more stable, lower to the ground and narrower than the others, meaning you can even ollie this board without fear of landing off centre and rolling your ankle on the mad lean!

The C5 system is not covered in our review of the C7 vs CX vs Landyachtz trucks, but we'd say it sits somewhere between the CX and the Landyachtz in terms of pumpability and stability.

A great option for anyone looking for a surfskate that goes well in the skatepark. The wheels are 95A - much harder than your average cruiser wheel, and will perform best on the smooth concrete of a park or on really good asphalt. Full of flow, whether you're sliding into the transition or banking right off the top.
