Loaded Icarus Drop Through Longboard
The Loaded Icarus is the latest in a long line of carving longboards from one of the most respected brands in longboarding. Loaded - also know as "Loaded Carving Systems" - know how to make a nice carving setup, and they've thrown all their wizardy at this deck!
Using a cambered profile with moulded 3D wheel wells and mini-kicktails, Loaded have focused on creating a complex flex pattern with maximum energy return from every carve. With a combination of Triaxial Fibreglass, CNC five-part bamboo core, and cork bottomsheet all soaked in bio-resin, it's safe to say that this level of flex engineering is more common in snowboards than longboards.
To create a longboard that carves well, you need loose trucks and big wheels - which can lead to wheelbite. Loaded have gone to great lengths to stop this board getting wheelbite, even with larger wheels and looser trucks. They've done this by pressing 3D "Wheel Flares" into the deck, which also creates some nice 3D "pockets" for your feet, so stepping off the end of the standing platform is less of an issue.
The Icarus is built to carve, but it's symmetrical shape also has a pair of "mini kicktails" for the odd bit of dancing should the mood take you. While we wouldn't recommend it as a dedicated longboard dancer, it will certainly do it, and it'll carve and turn a lot better than something like a Bhangra or a Mata Hari.

The Icarus is available in two flex options, and two stock complete builds. As the primary purpose of this deck is to carve, we suggest that you choose your flex based on your weight.
Both completes are handbuilt by us here in Bristol and finished off with Loaded's custom griptape job.

The Icarus Pro gives you a full Loaded Longboards complete at a more affordable price. With Paris trucks for the classic Loaded vibes, this will pump and carve to your hearts content. Is the Elite setup worth the extra £20?
For only an extra £20, you can upgrade the "Pro" setup to the "Elite" Level build.
The Elite setup is a pretty heavy wheel and bearing upgrade over the Pro.
You get Lush Longboards Easy Rider Bearings - fully shielded, easy to clean, with built in bearing spacers. They roll faster and last longer than the Pro level metal shielded ABEC5 bearings.
The Elite complete also includes Cult Cultron 74mm Longboard Wheels White, poured from a higher grade urethane. Premium urethane rolls fater, lasts longer, and generally injects a whole new level of life into the board - once you've skated decent wheels, you won't want anything else!
Less obvious is the wheel upgrade. Your extra £20 gets you a set of Cult Cultron over the Pro build's Cult Emperor. Apart from the obvious size difference, the Cult Cultron are poured from a higher grade of urethane - an invisible difference that you will immediately notice as soon as you push the board off.
Just like the bearings, the wheel upgrade makes your board roll faster and last longer - what's not to like??
If you look at the SRP difference of these components and add them together you'll see that the upgrade from Pro to Elite represents serious value - trust us, it's well worth it.
Coupled with this, we've noticed that almost everyone who makes it into our shop ends up with an Elite setup - the value is clear once you have the board in your hands!

We can change the truck bushings on this board to suit your weight and riding style!

Some other things to consider...
- If in doubt - go softer! Turnier boards are easier to balance on, and a lot more fun to skate.
- If you are "between hardnesses," we would recommend the softer option. So for example, for a 73kg rider, "Soft" rather than "Stock Setup" might be a better choice. Get in touch if you're not sure!
- if you want a very turny board - say for a dancing longboard - then it's worth going one stop softer than you otherwise would do. Watch out for wheelbite though!
- Likewise, if you want a board for downhill speed, then go up a step harder than the weight table suggests.
- You do have a bit of adjustment in the truck's kingpin nut, but we would suggest that if you have more than two threads showing then it's time to go to a harder bushing.

This is my second longboard ans definitely a step up from the stiffer deck I've bought as my first. I then discovered surf skates so of course, everything in comparison feels stiff under my feet but I so appreciate the speed, the stability and the bounce of the icarus flex! I'm still a noob on longboard and try to understand the pumping movement on a longboard so the Icarus makes it a little easier since the flex of the deck is an added bonus. I guess a heavier rider would definitely pump rail to rail easily, a lighter rider will have to almost jump in to make the most of the flex but I think that's what makes the icarus so fun to ride! It's also pure joy to push as the deck feels very stable for that as well once you find your sweet spot! Overall, I love this board! A great addition to my quiver and a must to have If you're into long distance skating!
