Everything great about the Sabre Forged Precision Mk3, planted on a 28 degree baseplate to go on the rear of your board.
Forged Hangers
A forged 6061-T6 hanger with CNC axle studs and pivot brings some significant advantages over a regular cast truck, including:
- Dead straight axles for more grip, and longer wheel and bearing life. All cast truck axles are bent due to the nature of the manufacturing process. By forging the hanger body and screwing in axle studs, the axles will always be much straighter.
- Cold-forged hanger body is much stronger and stiffer than a cast hanger
- Precision Ground axle studs fit the bearings much tighter and with less slop than a regular cast truck, which means smoother running bearings and less noise when sliding.
- CNC'd pivot is perfectly cylindrical, which gives a smoother turn than a cast truck ever could.
- More open bushing seat for more turn and dive. Combined with the smoother turning pivot, these trucks feel a lot more "fluid" than the cast version.
This is the 150mm version, better for wider wheels and narrower decks. You will find them gripper and more responsive than the wider 180mm version, with a more abrupt slide and hook up.
28 degree baseplate
The latest from Sabre Trucks - the Sabre Standard 180mm 28 degree longboard truck. This is designed to go on the back of your board with the Sabre 48 degree up front to produce a split angle setup, increasing your stability and ability to pump.
28 degrees is a very low angle - you don't want one of these as a front truck (unless you're riding a Lush Samba in which case you definitely do!).
The slack angle means it leans more and turns less compared to a standard truck of 45-50 degrees. Having this in the rear means your back wheels don't turn so much - your board will turn more like a car, with the front wheels doing the turning and the back wheels following along.
The benefits of a split angle setup like this are many:
- Easier to pump
- Carves with more lean, closer to the feeling of a snowboard or surfboard
- More agile at slow speeds
- More stable at high speeds
However there is also a drawback: It feels a bit naff to skate backwards! You certainly wouldn't want to do that at any speed. For disciplines of skating that require that (transition, dance/freestyle, freeride), a standard symmetrical truck setup is going to be what you're looking for.
Like all Sabre trucks, these come built with Sabre's own legendary aftermarket bushings. In the forged 28° you get a 96A barrel/cone combo with cupped washers as standard. Slightly harder than average to prevent wheelbite in the back and give you some meat to push off as you pump into the sunset.
Naturally equipped with Sabres hand poured urethane pivot cups, too.
If you have 48° Forged Sabre Trucks on your setup check out the Sabre Trucks Upgrade Kit - Split Angles.
It includes everything you need to make the switch to a split angle setup:
- Softer bushings in the front truck (we recommend 86a cones with cupped washers)
- Harder bushings for this back truck (we recommend 93a or 96a cone/barrel combos, with cupped washers)
- Risers can be useful to avoid wheelbite now your board leans like a dream
- Longer bolts to go through your new risers!
It includes all of the above, at a great price, with a few extra goodies thrown in so that you know you won't need anything more to get rolling.
If you don't already have a set of Forged Sabres, we also sell the two complete trucks as a Forged Precision 150mm Split Angle Truckset.
The Sabre baseplates come drilled "double old school" so they'll fit on any deck you've got, no matter how old or new.
