This kit contains all the hardware you need to upgrade your Reliable R1 trucks up to the same standard as the CNC'd Reliable S1 Truck.
Apart from the CNC construction on the S2, the major differences between it and the R1 are the shape of the "queenpins" and bushing inserts.
The queenpins in both trucks serve to stop the truck "slopping" from side to side. They ensure that the truck only turns on a single axis, resulting in more control at high speeds.
The queenpins on the R1 Cast truck are slightly narrower, and have a simple domed head. They work - but they will restrict the lean of the truck slightly as you really crank it over.
This kit upgrades your queenpins to the same as you'd get in the S2 CNC Precision truck set. These bring two fairly major improvements to the R1 truck:
- The S2 Precision Queenpins are a wider diameter, and fit their sleeves better. This means that they do a lot more to reduce truck slop, which is very important at such a narrow hanger width. This kit also comes with new sleeves to fit the upgraded queenpins - you can't us your R1 sleeves on the S2 queenpins.
- The new queenpins also have a "spherical" head to them, rather than the simpler domed head of the R1 queenpins. This means that there is less restriction on the truck as it gets to the edge of its lean. The kit also comes with new, larger Queenpin Pivot Cups, which "click" on the new queenpin better, and further reduce the slop. Again, note that you can't use the R1 queenpin pivot (green) with the new S2 queenpin pivot (black).
As well as all-new queenpins, this kit also contains a set of inserts for the bushing seat, like a "plug" bushing. This does further reduce the slop, although like all plug/insert bushings, it can restrict the lean of the truck at its limit. A great optional extra to have though - as they are optional and removable, you can experiment with them easily - one in the back and none in the front for example.
We think this kit is really very worthwhile, and reperesents a pretty hefty upgrade on the standard R1 cast truck. You're still not right up there with a precision setup, but the R1 truck plus the S2 upgrade kit gets you pretty close!
