The Seismic Speed Vent... It's been around for a minute now, and it's still here - because it's great.
A lot of crazy stuff has happened on these wheels!
- 90+mph downhill world record
- 313+ miles in 24 hours, individual world record
- 371+ miles in 24 hours, team world record
Seismic were ahead of the game with this one - big wheels have always existed, but for a while they weren't all that good. Seismic changed that with the Speed Vent which was not only fast as hell, but was also possible to slide without being bucked off your board.
Different durometers and urethanes are available so read carefully:
Pink, Mango and Mint use the DEFCON urethane (77A, 78.5A, 80A).
Purple uses the BlackOps urethane (79A).
- DEFCON urethane is the one for non negotiable focus on speed
- BlackOps is still super fast, but will slide like butter once broken in
Personally I find 85mm a bit too big for most topmount boards. With the inherent risk of wheelbite and such a high platform, more problems are created than solved. However anyone on a dropped board of any kind will likely be able to fit these on without any problems, and enjoy the full benefit of the Speed Vent!
85mm is a great size for a middle-big wheel. With decreased diameter and weight compared to the real beasts like the 90mm Megawatt, 92mm Karma and beyond, these will feel lighter and quicker to get up to speed off the traffic lights, without sacrificing much of your momentum or top speeds.
However if covering miles is really your thing and you've got lots of smooth cycle paths and not too much slowing down/sharp changing of direction, then the bigger wheels will likely offer a slightly better return on your effort.
Softer durometers will roll better over rougher terrain, harder durometers will be faster when its smooth - choose based on where you'll be skating them most!
It's also worth noting that we've seen the softer ones "chunk" - pieces of lip breaking out over time when they've been carved hard on really rough asphalt. This is an unfortunate reality of massive soft wheels and not restricted to the Seismic urethane or brand. It's also not particularly common - but we'd feel bad if we didn't lay it out there for you from the start.
So there you have it - The Seismic Speed Vents. A classic choice used by people all over the world for all manner of skating linked by one thing: going fast! Juicy.
All wheels sold in packs of four.
