Ask and ye shall receive! Pantheon Karma Rain wheels are finally in the UK - and what climate would benefit more from them than us?
These wheels are your regular Pantheon Karma wheels with added grooves/tread designed to channel water out from underneath the wheel and offer increased traction in wet conditions.
And yes, it works. Riding in the rain will never be quite as grippy as riding in the dry, but with rain wheels you regain a whole lot of control - it's no longer pure ice under your feet, but something you can work with and get to work safely.
For anyone that remembers Harfang wheels, the tread pattern in these wheels resembles their "Stage 1" pattern, designed to be the standard in light or heavy rain.
Jeff at Pantheon does say they'll roll a little slower than the regular Karmas in dry conditions, so take this as fair warning. But unless you're pushing as fast as he used to (winning longboard marathon races across the globe) then I wouldn't have thought you'll notice too much difference.
Most epic to pair with the Pantheon Supersonic Aegis for rain riding - built in mudguards and a rain wheel. If that setup can't get you through winter, none can!
Which way round do the Pantheon Rain wheels go?
The set of four wheels includes 2 specifically for the left side of the board and 2 for the right. The idea is the water enters the grooves and gets fed out sideways from under your wheels. So the "leading edge" of the groove is the central part, the trailing edge is the side that leaves the lip of the wheel.
If you can skate these the length of the UK in less than 3 weeks, let us know and Matt will buy you a beer.
All wheels sold in packs of four.
