We like longer wheelbases here at Vandem, they just have a more soulful carving feeling compared to the shorter wheelbases on most of today's mini-cruisers and shorter longboards. As the trucks are close to the nose and tail, the Icarus is just about short and light enough to carry around when you're not skating it.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eAlthough it's not the primary purpose of the Icarus, dancing, flips and shuvits are possible on this deck thanks to the small nose and tail kicks. Loaded have gone to great lengths to stop this board getting wheelbite, even with larger wheels and looser trucks. Awesome.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eThe mould: \u003c\/strong\u003eStarting with the biggest, most noticeable feature - the drops! Pantheon developed the crescent drop, which instead of being a straight line across the board is bordering on a semi-circle. In the centre of the board the drop is closer to your foot, and it recedes back towards the shoulders of the deck. This shape makes it stiffer and stronger, as well as offering your foot a more precise marker for exactly where it is on the board. All regular advantages of drop-down decks still apply - a lower centre of gravity for stability, easier pushing and braking and super forgiving initiation of slides.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eConcave-wise, it's a gentle radial concave. It's not trying to be something it isn't - for a board designed for distance you don't want too many features under foot. However when paired with the \"moustache rocker\" (rocker at the front and back of the board, and a light camber in the centre) you'll really feel locked in for pushing regular and mongo as well as always being right in the pocket for deep carves and slides.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eThe construction:\u003c\/strong\u003e A step up from your regular maple board, the Trip features 6 plies of maple sandwiched between fibreglass, with thin veneer topsheets. This one has applewood on the bottom which looks as juicy as it sounds. It's a lightweight board that's surprisingly stiff, a pushing machine that will eat up all the miles you can throw at it.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eThe graphics:\u003c\/strong\u003e What can we say, they're pretty Pantheon. Previously the sandwich was made of veneer (applewood) topsheets, then fibreglass, then the maple core. The 2025 Nexus loses the veneer topsheets and uses pre-preg fibreglass on the outside of the deck. Pre-preg is marginally stiffer and there are 2 less layers of glue in the deck overall, giving a lighter finish whilst still being strong as an ox. The graphic is underneath the bottom fibreglass layer so is nicely protected!\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eWhat makes it great for pushing makes it a dream for sliding, too. A low centre of gravity offers a more forgiving platform for breaking out of traction - the Nexus will drift round corners and freeride to your hearts delight.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eClassic Pantheon crescent drops are stiffer and more ergonomic than your standard drops. You'll notice these whether you're pushing along, nudging it with your toe to know that your foot is in the right spot or whether you're getting sideways and jamming the sides of your feet into them as if they're snowboard boots and you're ripping down an open face in deep powder.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eBeing slightly longer than the Trip, it needs a bit more strength to keep the nice stiffness with the slight dampening to ease the road noise out of the ride. The Nexus features 8 plies of Canadian maple, wrapped in triaxial fibreglass with wooden veneer topsheets.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eIf you're a heavier rider that construction is something to take note of - this board has been tested by riders of up to 150kg with success. For a dropped platform, that's really about as good as it gets.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003ePlenty of space for your feet and the solid construction means that once you've got this thing up to speed... it just won't stop.
